Happy Birthday Amanda!

Amanda’s birthday is today and we all wish her a very happy birthday!  Poverty, racism, and social justice issues are very close to Amanda’s heart.  She applies her faith to these issues and believes deeply that Jesus called all of us to take care of the least among us.  It says in Matthew 25 verses 34 through 36, “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.  For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

Amanda has been wishing for the Poverty and Justice Bible, so that is my birthday gift to her.  The Poverty and Justice Bible contains 2000 highlighted passages in the Bible that deal with these issues.  This Bible is designed as a study guide to use in helping you apply your faith to the important issues of injustice.

While deciding how to wrap the Bible, I knew that I wanted the packaging to be in keeping with the theme of poverty.  I wanted the wrapping to be simple and homemade, I thought either newspaper or paper bag wrapping tied with jute and a homemade tag.

In the end I settled with a brown paper bag tied with jute.  I used a large kraft tag, coffee dyed lace, coffee dyed cheese cloth, music print, and a printed Bible verse.  Online I found the sheet music to Revive Us Again, sized it and printed it out on coffee dyed paper, which I glued to the kraft tag.  I printed this Bible verse, And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.  Micah 6:8, on coffee dyed printer paper.  I added some aged lace and inked the edges making it look lightly grungy.  I decided not to add any embellishment to represent poverty.

Revive us again;
Fill each heart with Thy love;
May each soul be rekindled
With fire from above.

Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.

I believe that Amanda will get much use from this Bible as she applies the Word while contemplating the great moral issues of Poverty, Racism, and Social Injustice.

Side Note: After writing this I thought of the following scripture and decided to add a chain to the tag.

“This is the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loosen the chains of injustice and untie the cords of yoke, to set the oppressed free, and break every yoke.”  Isaiah 58:6

3 Day No Fail Happiness Challenge

happiness challenge

Happiness is the ultimate goal in life. Wouldn’t you agree?  It’s safe to say that everyone has their own ideas of how happiness is defined, but I have come up with a WHOPPING list of 3 ways to challenge yourself to be happy. After all, life is challenging enough without adding more challenges to our plates. For today, we will skip the idea of a 30 day challenge and be a bit more realistic. Who has the time for a 30 day challenge? Certainly, not me! For this challenge we will use the KISS principle, that is Keep It Simple Sister. Since I believe anyone can do anything for 3 days, I also call this my NO FAIL challenge. So here goes:

3 Day No Fail Happiness Challenge

DAY 1.  Ditch Social Media – Stay away from social media. There’s entirely too much negativity out there and you deserve a break for the day.

Day 2. Think Happy Thoughts – Life is what you make it, and if you dwell on the things that are making you unhappy, then you may overlook the finer things in life that bring you joy. Happiness is a mindset, so focus on counting your blessings today.

Day 3. Try A Random Act of Kindness – Make a kind gesture to someone else. Nothing lifts the spirit better than showing kindness to our fellow man. There are many ways to accomplish this task, e.g, bake some cookies for your neighbor, rub the hubby’s feet, or take the kids out for a treat. Always remember, it’s the little things that have the power to make our days happier.

Sound too simple? Try our happiness challenge and see how it affects your happy meter.
