Happy Birthday Amanda!

Amanda’s birthday is today and we all wish her a very happy birthday!  Poverty, racism, and social justice issues are very close to Amanda’s heart.  She applies her faith to these issues and believes deeply that Jesus called all of us to take care of the least among us.  It says in Matthew 25 verses 34 through 36, “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.  For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’

Amanda has been wishing for the Poverty and Justice Bible, so that is my birthday gift to her.  The Poverty and Justice Bible contains 2000 highlighted passages in the Bible that deal with these issues.  This Bible is designed as a study guide to use in helping you apply your faith to the important issues of injustice.

While deciding how to wrap the Bible, I knew that I wanted the packaging to be in keeping with the theme of poverty.  I wanted the wrapping to be simple and homemade, I thought either newspaper or paper bag wrapping tied with jute and a homemade tag.

In the end I settled with a brown paper bag tied with jute.  I used a large kraft tag, coffee dyed lace, coffee dyed cheese cloth, music print, and a printed Bible verse.  Online I found the sheet music to Revive Us Again, sized it and printed it out on coffee dyed paper, which I glued to the kraft tag.  I printed this Bible verse, And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.  Micah 6:8, on coffee dyed printer paper.  I added some aged lace and inked the edges making it look lightly grungy.  I decided not to add any embellishment to represent poverty.

Revive us again;
Fill each heart with Thy love;
May each soul be rekindled
With fire from above.

Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Hallelujah! Amen.
Hallelujah! Thine the glory.
Revive us again.

I believe that Amanda will get much use from this Bible as she applies the Word while contemplating the great moral issues of Poverty, Racism, and Social Injustice.

Side Note: After writing this I thought of the following scripture and decided to add a chain to the tag.

“This is the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loosen the chains of injustice and untie the cords of yoke, to set the oppressed free, and break every yoke.”  Isaiah 58:6

The Witch Is In Sign

When witches go riding,
and black cats are seen,
the moon laughs and whispers,
‘tis near Halloween.
~Author Unknown

October is here, fall is in the air, the witches and goblins will soon be out.  Each year the youngest Gypsy patiently waits for October to arrive so she can begin decorating.  She needed something new for the door so we designed a sign that we could share with all of you.  It is a very easy DIY project that looks very nice hanging on our entry door.

We wanted to make it simple so we made our sign 11 x 8 1/2 inches but with a little trimming you could just as easily make it an 8 x 10.

Supplies Needed

Supplies Needed:

  • Prints
  • 11 x 8.5 plywood
  • 3 x2 plywood
  • Paper Trimmer or scissors
  • Paint brushes
  • Brayer or putty knife
  • Sandpaper
  • Wire
  • Wire cutter
  • Paint
  • Mod Podge
  • Small tack

Step 1:

Download the free images and print.  There are three images included, the main image with the witch with the wording, The Witch Is.  The next image is one with both the in and out.  We also included an image that has The Witch Is In if you would rather frame it.

Step 2:

Cut two pieces of plywood, we used wood that was 1/4 inch thick so it wouldn’t be heavy hanging on the door. You will need one cut to 11 x 8.5 inches and another one cut to 3 x 2 inches.  Also you need to drill small holes at the top corners of both pieces of plywood for the wire.  We drilled our holes after we we had adhered the prints to the plywood.  If we were doing it again we would drill the holes first

Step 3:

Paint the plywood the color of choice.  We used cheap craft paint and a sponge brush.

Step 4:

If needed trim print to fit plywood. The in and out print will have to be trimmed to fit the 3 x 2 plywood.  When Paint is completely dry Mod Podge prints to the plywood.  Use brayer or putty knife to remove all air bubbles.  Mod Podge the In print to one side of the 3 x 2 and the out print to the other side. We laid a piece of clean printer paper over our sign when we used the brayer.  We added a top coat of Mod Podge.  Let completely dry.

Step 5:

Insert the wire into the holes for the hanger on both pieces.  Place a small tack on the witch sign for the in and out sign.  We placed our tack under the loop of the h.  You will be able to flip it to say The Witch Is In or The Witch Is Out.

We hope you enjoy this free printable and please share with us how you used it.

Have A Fun and Safe Halloween

3 Day No Fail Happiness Challenge

happiness challenge

Happiness is the ultimate goal in life. Wouldn’t you agree?  It’s safe to say that everyone has their own ideas of how happiness is defined, but I have come up with a WHOPPING list of 3 ways to challenge yourself to be happy. After all, life is challenging enough without adding more challenges to our plates. For today, we will skip the idea of a 30 day challenge and be a bit more realistic. Who has the time for a 30 day challenge? Certainly, not me! For this challenge we will use the KISS principle, that is Keep It Simple Sister. Since I believe anyone can do anything for 3 days, I also call this my NO FAIL challenge. So here goes:

3 Day No Fail Happiness Challenge

DAY 1.  Ditch Social Media – Stay away from social media. There’s entirely too much negativity out there and you deserve a break for the day.

Day 2. Think Happy Thoughts – Life is what you make it, and if you dwell on the things that are making you unhappy, then you may overlook the finer things in life that bring you joy. Happiness is a mindset, so focus on counting your blessings today.

Day 3. Try A Random Act of Kindness – Make a kind gesture to someone else. Nothing lifts the spirit better than showing kindness to our fellow man. There are many ways to accomplish this task, e.g, bake some cookies for your neighbor, rub the hubby’s feet, or take the kids out for a treat. Always remember, it’s the little things that have the power to make our days happier.

Sound too simple? Try our happiness challenge and see how it affects your happy meter.

Welcome to Three Gypsy Souls!

Welcome to the Three Gypsy Souls blog! If you’ve never heard of us, then you are probably wondering, right about now, what kind of blog you’ve stumbled upon. So let me introduce you to the Three Gypsy Souls. I’m Amanda, one of the creators of our fabulous wall art and head of the operation (Shh! Don’t tell my biz partners I said so.) I like to design typography art and dole out the plans of the day. Diana, my mother, is the creative thinker. She designs our logos, website, blog pages, and much more.  And finally Alexis, my 11 yr old daughter, is the free spirit. Alexis’s talent basically consists of telling us her opinions in her own sassy 11 yr old way, of course. Together we are the owners and operators of Three Gypsy Souls, where we create typography wall art, or quote art as some like to call it.

But, our talents don’t rest there. While I like to create digital art, Diana and Alexis prefer a more hands on approach to art and have been creating junk journals and mixed media art, too. We also make the best smelling soy wax melts in the Midwest, which we hope to be adding to our shop soon. As you can probably tell by now, we have a vast amount of interest in arts and crafts; therefore, Diana crafted the name Three Gypsy Souls to represent our wandering artistic spirit.

Now that I’ve introduced ourselves, I hope that you will stick around and become a new follower of our blog. You will find many interesting posts here, because we will remain true to our vagabond ways by blogging about many interesting topics including how to, diy, recipes, art, home décor, books, and of course our products.

Since we have so cleverly enticed you to be our new friend (wink, wink) don’t forget to grab your FREE printable family quote before you go.
